Indonesian singer Reza Artamevia was arrested by the police on Sept. 4 for possession of crystal methamphetamine.
According to tempo.co, Jakarta police spokesman Yusri Yunus said on Saturday that the police had arrested a woman with the initials RA. He added that the police would give more detailed information in a press conference at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) headquarters on Sunday.
The singer was arrested in August 2016 for testing positive for drugs. At the time, Reza was one of eight people arrested in a raid on the Golden Tulip Hotel in Mataram, Lombok. The singer was not declared a suspect as the police did not find any narcotics on her. Reza underwent rehabilitation as the case was handled by the National Narcotics Agency in West Nusa Tenggara province.
Reza is one of the most popular singers in the country, with numerous hits and awards under her belt. She gained national recognition with her debut album Keajaiban (Magic, 1997), which spawned the hits “Pertama” and “Satu Yang Tak Bisa Lepas”. Her second album, Keabadian (Eternity, 2000), also produced hits such as “Keabadian”, “Biar Menjadi Kenangan” and “Cinta Kan Membawamu Kembali”.
The singer took some time away from the stage in the mid-2000s and in recent years began to appear at festivals and concerts. One of her most well-known songs released in 2002, “Berharap Tak Berpisah”, became a bridge for the younger generation to discover the singer as it was often included in karaoke parties in Jakarta. The song went viral on social media in 2019, spawning countless memes and the hashtag #izinkanakuchallenge. (wng)
