In what was a quad meet, Grosse Ile led the local teams with a second-place finish. For the day, the Red Devils came away with 13 points, behind first-place Chelsea (24) and ahead of third-place Trenton (9) and fourth-place Woodhaven (2).
Overall, Chelsea swept every match along the way.
At No. 1 singles, Grosse Ile’s Robert Standen won two matches, as he beat Trenton’s Vinny Steyaert (6-1, 6-1) and knocked off Woodhaven’s Nick Mink (6-2, 6-3). In addition, Mink topped Steyaert, who was unable to continue due to an injury.
Grosse Ile’s Anthony Naso won two matches at No. 1 singles, as he defeated Trenton’s Nick Mator (4-6, 6-3, 10-4) and Woodhaven’s Aiden Langois (7-5, 6-1). Also, Mator got by Langois (6-0, 6-1).
Also winning two matches for Grosse Ile was No. 3 singles player Ben Bercha, who topped Trenton’s Matt Vinca (7-5, 6-1) and Woodhaven’s Santino Ciotti (6-2, 6-2). Vinca picked up a victory over Ciotti (6-2, 6-2).
Each local squad won one match at No. 4 singles. Calib Johnson of Grosse Ile defeated Trenton’s Luke Vallar (6-2, 4-6, 10-7) while Vallar knocked off Woodhaven’s John Martin (6-2, 6-1) and Martin topped Johnson (6-2, 3-6, 10-7).
At No. 1 doubles, the Grosse Ile team of Alex Stewart and Divum Mittal came away with a win over Trenton’s Connor Robb and Daxton Lucidi (7-5, 3-6, 10-2) and Woodhaven’s Jesse Laginess and Owen Sawicki (6-1, 6-4). Trenton also had a win, as Robb and Lucidi topped Laginess and Sawicki (6-4, 6-0).
Trenton picked up two wins at No. 2 doubles, as the duo of Danny Nutter and Ian McFarland defeated Grosse Ile’s Harrison Lee and Henry Vergoven (7-6, 4-6, 10-6) and Woodhaven’s Jordan Bechtol and Nick Gielvich (6-4, 6-1). In addition, Lee and Vergoven got past Bechtol and Gielvich (6-0, 6-0).
In was Grosse Ile earning two victories at No. 3 doubles, thanks to the team of Ben Lazorka and Luke Hargrove. They knocked off Trenton’s Caiden Robinette and Caden Gloss (6-1, 7-5) and Woodhaven’s Zach Owczarzak and Marcello Luna (6-1, 7-5). Also, Robinette and Gloss earned a win over Owczarzak and Luna (6-1, 7-5).
The Trenton team of Connor Mauritho and Jay Cormier claimed two wins at No. 4 doubles, as they beat Grosse Ile’s Landon Johnson and Trent Chelbek (6-1, 6-2) and Woodhaven’s Josh Ruddy and Sabit Islan (6-2, 6-1). Grosse had a victory, as well, with Johnson and Chelbek defeating Ruddy and Islan (6-2, 6-2).
The Honor and Glory “B” Tournament was held at Carleton Airport the same day and was won by Wyandotte Roosevelt (19). Roosevelt finished ahead of Airport (14), Dearborn Heights Crestwood (8) and Riverview (7).
